Set up of Lane Cove Sawing Establishment. Timber from the nearby area was floated down Lane Cove River to feed the expansion of a rapidly growing Sydney.

1812

Bulk of Lindfield granted to George Cadby, Daniel Dering Mathew and Richard Archbold on the promise that they would improve the land by clearing the timber prior to farming.

1884

Francis John List built Lindfield Cottage after his native English village in Sussex, from which Lindfield’s name was derived.

1890

The local railway station was built near List’s cottage and took the name Lindfield Station.

1893

The North Shore line was extended to Milson’s Point, allowing convenient access to the CBD from Milson’s Point Wharf. This led to a boom in population and residential development in the area.

1918

The beginning of Lindfield’s post war boom that saw an explosion of retail and residential developments

Lindfield Village Hub is one of the largest urban renewal projects that Ku-ring-gai Council will undertake in its 100 year history. The council looks to deliver new parks, civic spaces, and a hub for retail, dining and entertainment experiences that will transform the streetscape of the area. The inclusion of a state-of-the-art library and community centre will complete the space, and the Hub will offer a dynamic urban village in the heart of Lindfield, and set to become a central and vibrant community space for Lindfield and the surrounding suburbs.

Set on approximately 5,350 sqm of land and consisting of a pavilion, public plaza, amenities and a three level underground car park, Lindfield Village Green forms part of Ku-ring-gai Council’s ‘Activate Lindfield’ initiative to revitalise Lindfield town centre.

The Village Green will showcase environmental design and water capture, water storage and reuse, as well as water conservation technologies, and is designed to facilitate social gatherings and improved movement. Lindfield Village Green will see sweeping landscaping, paved areas and abundant pathways that will intersect the project, and will play a central part in the community life for local residents.

On the third Sunday of every month, Lindfield becomes abuzz with the opening of the gorgeous That Great Market, an indoor and outdoor lifestyle artisan market with a relaxed family atmosphere that emphasises locally crafted products and locally made produce.

On that special Sunday, families wander amongst the many stalls, enjoy the sounds of live bands playing, and are enchanted by leafy surrounds whilst on a journey to discover their personal hidden treasures.
